Chetwan Exposes Election Fraud: Collecting ID Cards and Vote Buying Scheme
On January 31, 2024, Chetwan Teouprakon, a parliamentary candidate for the People's Party from Pathum Thani, shared a video of a campaign caravan speech exposing election fraud. He claimed that some political parties are already engaging in vote-buying tactics by collecting voters' ID cards. The method involves taking voters' ID cards, pre-marking election ballots, and then finding an opportunity to insert these pre-marked ballots into ballot boxes. Chetwan specifically warned about the critical period before polling stations open at 8 AM, when he believes young voters will still be asleep and fewer people will be watching the ballot boxes. "I'm not worried about vote counting after the polls close because there will be party representatives and many observers," Chetwan said. "But during the 8 AM hour when young people are likely to sleep in and not arrive early, they might insert pre-marked ballots into the boxes." He urged everyone to wake up early, go to the polling stations, and ensure no suspicious ballots are hidden in the boxes. Chetwan also reported receiving numerous messages about vote-buying across different areas, with buying prices ranging from 300 to 1,500 baht depending on the location. Furthermore, he warned that collecting ID cards might lead to potential future misuse, such as creating fraudulent bank accounts, and advised citizens to be cautious.
