Filipino Food Influencer Dies After Posting Video of Eating Deadly Sea Creature
On February 12, foreign media reported a tragic incident in the Philippines where a food influencer named Emma Amit died after creating content featuring the consumption of a poisonous sea creature known as the 'devil crab'. The 51-year-old influencer collected shellfish and seafood in a mangrove forest near her home in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on February 4, filming a cooking video with her friends. They prepared a seafood dish by boiling the creatures in coconut milk. The next day, she began experiencing severe poisoning symptoms. Witnesses reported she experienced violent seizures while being transported to a clinic, with her lips turning a dark green as she lost consciousness. Despite doctors' full efforts to save her, she died on February 6, two days after consuming the seafood. The devil crab is a sea creature living in Indo-Pacific coral reef areas, containing several powerful neurotoxins including saxitoxin and tetrodotoxin. Experts warn that despite its beautiful coloration, consuming this crab can be fatal within hours. Local authorities have issued strict warnings against consuming these deadly sea creatures.
