Lampun and Phayao Teams Withdrawn After Penalty Kick Controversy
A dramatic national senior football championship qualifier in the 5th regional zone, known as 'Wiang Kosai Games', took place at Mae Jo University - Chaloem Phrakiat football field in Phrae province. After a 1-1 draw, the match went to penalty kicks to determine the winner. Surprisingly, both teams deliberately missed their penalty shots, raising match-fixing suspicions. On February 20th, Songsakai Khamdeerungruerat, director of the Sports Authority of Thailand's Region 5 in Chiang Mai, chaired a meeting to review the incident. The meeting included representatives from the senior football association, team leaders from Lampun and Phayao, and other officials. The final decision was to withdraw both teams and report the incident to the Sports Authority of Thailand's central office for potential disciplinary action.
