Chiang Mai Tiger Center Closes for 14 Days After Mysterious Tiger Deaths, Suspected Disease Outbreak
On Feb 19, 2024 – Reporters revealed that the popular Tiger Center in Mae Rim, Chiang Mai has announced a 14-day service closure for tourist safety after discovering multiple tigers dying under mysterious circumstances. Staff have installed metal barriers and warning signs, strictly preventing external personnel and tourists from entering the area, with only veterinary and public health officials permitted inside. Management explained that a disease outbreak in the past two days caused multiple tigers to fall ill, prompting the immediate relocation of all tigers to a care center in Mae Taeng, approximately 30 kilometers away. Provincial veterinary and public health officials have been called to inspect the facility, disinfect the area, and conduct employee health checks as a precautionary measure.
