On February 18, 2024 - Reporters noted that the Thai-Cambodian border area in Buriram province remains tense after a second ceasefire. Locals continue daily activities while remaining cautious and prepared for potential evacuation. A widespread forest fire has occurred near the border at Chan Baphet Subdistrict in Ban Kruat District, which is suspected to be intentionally set by Cambodian military to provoke Thailand. Vichai Khaengrong, 62, the deputy mayor of Chan Baphet, revealed that in the past 2-3 days, forest fires on the Cambodian side have been spreading, with fire sparks crossing the border. The municipal authorities have prepared emergency response teams, fire trucks, volunteers, and are coordinating with local security agencies to monitor the situation 24 hours a day in case the fire spreads to Thai territory.
