Police Issue Warning on Alcohol Sales Prohibition During Election Period

BANGKOK — On 7 February 2026, the Royal Thai Police announced a complete ban on alcohol sales, distribution, and provision from 18:00 today until 18:00 tomorrow, aimed at ensuring a safe and orderly general election and referendum. Pol. Lt-Gen. Chaitphon Suwanrak, Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, stated that officers nationwide are prepared to maintain public order and remain politically neutral throughout the electoral process. The alcohol prohibition is designed to prevent illegal election influences, with potential penalties including fines up to THB 10,000, imprisonment for six months, or both for violations. Police recommend that residents download the 'Police Care' app for guidance on election laws, though the app may have limited availability for foreign residents.
