Terror on the Road: Two-Story Tour Bus Overturns, Over 30 Injured
On February 15, 2024, police in Huai Yot District, Trang Province, were alerted to a tour bus accident where a two-story bus traveling from Phuket to Betong overturned on the roadside near a school. Approximately 20 emergency vehicles from various districts rushed to the scene. The bus was found on its side with extensive front-end damage. Emergency workers broke the rear windows to rescue passengers.
Over 10 passengers were severely injured and around 30 sustained minor injuries. The bus driver, 52-year-old Sirichai, suffered a severed left leg and head injury but remained conscious. He claimed a motorcycle cut him off, forcing him to swerve. One passenger also suffered a severely fractured ankle.
A parked truck was also damaged in the collision. The bus had departed Phuket at 10 PM on February 14th, heading to Yala Province, with 52 people on board. Police patrol officers who witnessed the scene believe the driver likely fell asleep and dispute the motorcycle cut-off claim.
The bus company arranged a replacement vehicle to continue transporting remaining passengers to their destination.
