Forest Department Files Legal Action Against Intruders in Huay Kung Reserved Forest Area
On February 3, 2026, Forest Department Director Nikorn Sirojananon reported legal action against investors encroaching on the Huay Kung area in the Lam Nam Yom Right Bank National Forest Reserve in Sob Mey District, Mae Hong Son Province. Officials discovered unauthorized barbed wire fencing, temporary shelters, and surveillance cameras, seizing approximately 1.54 rai of land along with batteries, cellular CCTV cameras, and solar panels. The area is near a temporary border shelter, and the investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrators. The director emphasized that local villagers can still access the area for traditional fishing, but unauthorized construction and fencing are strictly prohibited. Additionally, the area involves a mining concession for zeolite and wolfram minerals, with ongoing monitoring of potential illegal mining activities, particularly by Myanmar migrant workers from nearby temporary shelters.
