Indonesia "Continues to Find Victims" as Landslide Death Toll Rises to 53

The landslide in Pasir Langu village in West Bandung district occurred after heavy continuous rainfall, and came shortly after flooding and landslides from a cyclone on Sumatra Island at the end of 2025, which claimed around 1,200 lives and forced over 1 million people to evacuate. Rescue teams have extended their emergency response period by 7 more days until February 6th, despite the parliamentary commission cutting the budget of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) on January 28th, amid concerns about the numerous disaster events the agency must handle.
