Chinese Court Sentences Former Justice Minister to Life in Prison for Massive Bribery
A Chinese court has sentenced Tang Yijun, 64, the former justice minister, to life in prison for taking bribes worth over 137 million yuan (approximately 623 million baht) between 2006 and 2022. State broadcaster CCTV reported that Tang also abused his power to seek benefits for various entities and individuals, including company registrations, land repurchases, bank loans, and case management. The court stated that Tang's actions constituted bribery, with the sums involved being 'particularly huge' and causing 'particularly serious losses' to state and public interests. Tang was also stripped of political rights for life and had all personal property confiscated. This sentencing comes amid Chinese President Xi Jinping's massive anti-corruption campaign, which has led to the arrest of several high-ranking officials in recent weeks.
