Meteorological Department Warns of Unstable Weather, Summer Storms with Heavy Rain and Hail
On February 20, the Meteorological Department officially announced Thailand will enter the summer season from February 22, warning of summer storms in the upper regions between February 23-25. Dr. Sukanyani Yawincharn, the department's director, revealed that northern Thailand will experience temperatures of 35°C and above, with wind directions shifting to southerly and southeast winds. The early summer period will have unstable weather as cool and hot air masses collide, potentially causing thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail in some areas. The summer season is expected to end around mid-May, with March and April predicted to be particularly hot. High-risk areas including Mae Hong Son, Lampang, and Tak may experience temperatures exceeding 42°C. The department advises citizens to take precautions during hot weather, avoid outdoor activities between 10 AM and 7 PM, and be aware of potential fire risks.
