District Chief Orders Halt to Infant Burial, Files Charges Against Cemetery
The district chief of Wisetchaichan, Apichat Srira, has ordered a halt to burials at a local temple and initiated legal proceedings under the Cemetery and Crematorium Act of 1985. The case stems from a controversy involving a famous spiritual medium from Ang Thong province who was accused of sexual assault and had been burying infants near a rescue center, creating an unauthorized cemetery with offerings and toys.
The district chief emphasized that any future burial activities must comply with legal requirements and can only be conducted after submitting proper applications. The potential fine for operating an unauthorized cemetery is up to 2,000 baht, though multiple legal aspects are still under investigation.
Apichat also denied personal connections to the spiritual medium, stating he only became aware of the situation through recent news reports. Local authorities are collaborating with police to ensure a thorough and just investigation.
