Thailand Ready to Become First Disneyland in Southeast Asia
The Thai Embassy in Washington D.C. has published a message on Facebook stating that Thailand is aiming to become the host of the first Disneyland in Southeast Asia. The government has increased efforts to attract a global theme park as part of its strategy to expand family entertainment and tourism industries. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Pipat Ratchakitprakarn disclosed that the government has begun studying suitable locations and developing investment promotion measures to entice Disney or other global entertainment companies to invest in Thailand. Previously, Thailand has demonstrated its potential to attract multinational corporations by attracting global technology companies to invest in data centers and digital infrastructure to support artificial intelligence and next-generation industries. The government believes it can apply the same strategic approach to attracting landmark entertainment projects. The potential Disneyland location is being considered in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), which covers three provinces east of Bangkok. The area reflects Thailand's vision for advanced technology industries, sustainable development, and modern city creation. Pipat noted that the EEC is designed to support "magnet projects" that will elevate the region's global image and attract long-term investments. The EEC area is prepared for developing a large international theme park, with beach attractions, international airports, international schools and leading universities, and comprehensive leisure and sports facilities including golf courses and yacht clubs. Furthermore, the government is developing a national sports center in the EEC area, which will include a world-standard football stadium with 80,000 seats to host international sports competitions, concerts, and large entertainment events. If a Disneyland is constructed in the EEC, it would elevate Thailand's family entertainment industry, support the growth of international communities and expert groups, and attract additional domestic and international tourists. Currently, Disney has theme parks in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, but none in Southeast Asia. Thailand hopes to position itself as the most suitable option for the first Disney resort in the region.
