Come Together - Following the Path of Faith of 'Kruba Sri Wichai', the Saint of Lanna
The Ministry of Culture, through the Department of Religious Affairs, is preparing to launch a pilgrimage route for 'Kruba Sri Wichai, the Saint of Lanna' in Lamphun Province on February 15-16, 2026. The project is one of 20 selected religious tourism routes aimed at promoting religious, cultural, and historical tourism while developing moral communities and sustainably stimulating the economy.
Kruba Sri Wichai is a venerated monk known for his beautiful moral conduct and deeply respected by Buddhists in Northern Thailand. He traveled extensively through the Lanna region, spreading Buddhist teachings and initiating the construction and restoration of numerous temples and public works that have now become important historical sites and learning centers.
Lamphun and Chiang Mai provinces, along with the Lamphun Association and 9 northern provinces, are collaborating to nominate Kruba Sri Wichai to UNESCO for recognition as a world-important figure during his 150th birth anniversary in 2028.
