Suspect Who Shot Police Officer Captured After Fleeing to Myanmar

The suspect, Viphak Wongwan, 36, was captured by Myanmar authorities after shooting Police Sergeant Aphiwat Mala, 27, during a routine check in Ban Rai Phatthana Village, San Kamphaeng District, Chiang Mai. He was wanted on charges of attempted murder of a police officer and carrying weapons in a public space. Thai border military officials coordinated with Myanmar authorities to extradite the suspect, who will be handed over to Region 5 Police for further legal action. A press conference is scheduled for February 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM to discuss the arrest.
