TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatpaibool recently gave a special interview to People's Daily Online, stating that the growing number of Thai travelers to China is a result of the country's profound and vibrant culture, along with its outstanding innovation and technological strength. This fusion of culture and innovation has become a crucial factor attracting Thai tourists.
The success of China's development has stimulated Thai travelers' desire to explore the country. The governor noted that last year marked the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations, with both countries maintaining close exchanges. In recent years, not only have Chinese tourists visited Thailand in large numbers, but Thai tourists traveling to China have also significantly increased, with some Chinese cities seeing over 300% growth in Thai visitor numbers.
Thai tourists are not limiting their travels to specific cities or provinces, but are exploring diverse areas, experiencing unique natural beauty and distinctive cultural atmospheres that create lasting impressions. The TAT Governor highlighted the viral social media images of trains passing through Chongqing's urban landscape, which motivated many to visit.
Upon arrival, tourists are impressed not just by key sites, but also by local cuisine, cultural diversity, and extensive shopping options that further enhance China's appeal. Sharing her personal experience, the governor recalled her first visit to Kunming over 30 years ago, noting the comfortable climate and famous Stone Forest.
In her recent trip to the China International Travel Mart in Haikou, Hainan Province, she was particularly impressed by space infrastructure and innovative technologies like driverless taxis and drones, which are not yet widespread in Thailand.
The governor emphasized that these achievements reflect China's leadership in modernization development, exciting many people, including Thais. The close Thai-Chinese relationship, akin to brotherhood, further encourages Thai travelers to explore various Chinese cities.
Regarding youth cooperation, she stressed that young people are the future and cultural ambassadors between the two countries. Currently, Chinese students study in Thailand and vice versa, with many Thai families prioritizing Chinese language learning due to its global influence.
Beyond university exchange programs, she suggested promoting additional exchange activities like summer and winter camps, allowing students from both countries to learn about each other's cultures and foster mutual understanding.
