Forest Fire Risk Escalates in Southern Chiang Mai
Wildfires have begun emerging in the southern part of Chiang Mai province, with authorities reporting the situation remains manageable due to remaining forest moisture. Kritsayam Kongsatri from the Protected Area Regional Office 16 explained that fires originated in Tak before spreading to Lamphun and southern Chiang Mai, with Doi Tao district experiencing the most serious conditions.
Authorities are closely monitoring Op Luang National Park and have implemented several preventive measures, including stepped-up forest surveillance, temporary forest closures, and controlled burning in strategic locations. Fuel management operations are underway in wildlife sanctuaries and national parks, focusing on areas prone to repeated fires and targeting small, controllable sections that can be extinguished before nightfall.
