Phuket Authorities Launch Operation to Reclaim Encroached Beachfront Land
Phuket authorities initiated a comprehensive operation to reclaim public land along Bang Tao Beach following numerous complaints about unauthorized encroachment by influential individuals. The survey involved officials from Provincial Police Region 8, district administrative officers, and local representatives gathering evidence about potential illegal land use. The investigation focused on areas in Moo 2, Cherng Talay subdistrict, where complaints suggested that private groups had occupied state-owned beachfront property. Allegations included using the land for private parties, potential drug-related gatherings, and operating entertainment venues, while restricting public access. Previous attempts to inspect the area had been obstructed, with alleged intimidation tactics used against officials. As a result, the Royal Thai Police escalated the case, with Police Region 8 launching a formal survey to determine the extent of land misuse. Officials noted that several buildings may have been constructed on public land, potentially violating regulations and preventing residents and tourists from freely accessing the beach.
