Office of Cane and Sugar Board Seeks Emergency Funds to Compensate Sugarcane Farmers Affected by Border Conflict
Bai Noi Suwanchatri, Secretary-General of the Office of Cane and Sugar Board, revealed that the organization is expediting assistance for farmers in the Thai-Cambodian border areas affected by border conflicts with security limitations. Some areas have been designated as red zones with unexploded ordnance, preventing farmers from harvesting sugarcane. Currently, approximately 20,000 rai of standing sugarcane have died in Surin province and 20,000-30,000 rai in Sa Kaeo, with about 5,000 rai considered completely inaccessible. The organization is preparing to request central government emergency funds, calculating compensation based on average production of 10 tons per rai and current sugarcane prices. They will finalize damage assessments after the sugarcane harvesting season concludes.
