Action Taken! Complaint Filed to Dissolve Kla Thamma Party over Candidate with Forest Resource Criminal Record
On February 2nd, 2024, at the Election Commission office, Sri Suwan Chanya, leader of the Patriotic Love Organization, filed a complaint against the Kla Thamma Party. He requested an investigation into the party's violation of party regulations and political party laws by recruiting a member previously imprisoned for forest resource crimes and supporting their parliamentary candidacy in Nakhon Ratchasima's 13th district. The Supreme Court had previously ordered the candidate's name be removed from the electoral list. Sri Suwan argued that the candidate, who served a 3-year, 4-month, and 15-day prison sentence for national forest and forestry law violations, had not completed the required 10-year waiting period before seeking election. He contended that the party's actions potentially violate electoral laws and could result in party dissolution.
