Chiang Rai Shaken by 3.3 Magnitude Earthquake, Residents in 6 Subdistricts Across 4 Districts Feel Tremors
On February 16, the Geohazard Operation Center of the Department of Mineral Resources reported an earthquake at 09:37 AM. The 3.3 magnitude tremor was classified as a minor earthquake, occurring at a depth of 3 kilometers near Ban Dai Subdistrict in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province. The quake was caused by movement along the Mae Chan fault line, with a nearly west-east orientation and a left lateral strike-slip fault movement. Tremors were reported in Wiang Phang Kham, Pong Ngam, and Ban Dai subdistricts in Mae Sai District, Mae Chan Subdistrict in Mae Chan District, Mae Slong Nai Subdistrict in Mae Fa Luang District, and Sri Don Mun Subdistrict in Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai Province. Initially, no damage has been reported.
