Police Arrest Malaysian Suspect in 1.93 Million Baht Scam

PATTAYA — Local police have arrested a Malaysian national involved in a sophisticated call centre scam that tricked a 20-year-old victim into handing over 1,933,000 baht in cash at a Big C South Pattaya shopping centre car park. The suspect, Yap Chin Keong, used a sophisticated fraud scheme involving fake claims about the victim's national ID card and online gambling website registration, convincing the victim to withdraw and surrender the money. After tracking the suspect through CCTV footage and vehicle registration details, police arrested him at a hotel in Nonthaburi on 14 February 2026, charging him with fraud, forgery, and computer system information crimes.
