Malaysian Call Center Gang Arrested for Scamming Young Man Out of 1.93 Million Baht
Pattaya police arrested a Malaysian call center gang who scammed a 20-year-old man out of 1.93 million baht by claiming to be telecommunications center officials. The incident began when Pen-thai, age 20, reported receiving a phone call alleging his ID card had been used to register a phone number for promoting online gambling. The scammers convinced him to withdraw cash and meet them at a parking lot in southern Pattaya. CCTV footage showed a suspect in a white long-sleeved shirt and mask receiving the money, then changing clothes inside the mall. Police tracked the suspect to a hotel in Nonthaburi and arrested Mr. Yap Chin Keong, a Malaysian national who had entered Thailand on February 10th. The suspect was charged with fraud, document forgery, and computer crime.
