Myanmar Man Caught Smuggling 6 Chinese Youths Across Border
At 1:00 AM on February 18, 2024, security officials intercepted a green Toyota Corolla at the joint checkpoint in Thong Pha Phum district, Kanchanaburi province. The driver, a 40-year-old Myanmar national named Jo, was transporting 6 Chinese youth aged 19-29, most of whom were carrying mobile devices. During the search, officials discovered 25 mobile phones, one laptop, two keyboards, and a mouse. The suspects were charged with illegal entry, with the driver accused of helping foreigners evade capture. Authorities suspect the group was heading to the Myawaddy area in Myanmar to join a scammer network located 20-30 kilometers inside the border.
