Kanvee Visits Kimyong Market, Urges Government to Stimulate Economy as National Agenda
On January 30, 2024, Kanvee Suebsaeng, leader of the Palang Party, accompanied by Aphisit Laisatrukai, head of strategy and policy, visited Kimyong Market in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province. Their goal was to support local merchants after the flood and introduce their party.
The market, which has been operating normally for over two months, revealed a dire economic situation. Merchants unanimously reported having no customers, with the market experiencing severe economic stagnation and no government stimulus measures.
Kanvee acknowledged that while Palang is a new party, he and Aphisit are former MPs who have been committed to the Southern region. They witnessed the flood crisis, observed slow government recovery efforts, and praised the resilience of local entrepreneurs who have fought to recover independently.
The party emphasized the need to revive the Southern Border Provinces' economy, particularly highlighting the importance of peace and cross-border trade. Kanvee noted that if the border regions become peaceful, Hat Yai's economy will improve, and they aim to support local businesses and border trade development.
The visit confirmed their expectations of a depressed economy, with significantly reduced tourism from Malaysia, Indonesia, and China. They strongly urged the government to implement comprehensive economic recovery measures, arguing that local efforts are insufficient and immediate national-level intervention is crucial.
