Cabinet Approves Import of Onions and Potatoes Under WTO Trade Commitments
Deputy Government Spokesperson Aiyarin Panrit revealed that the Cabinet approved agricultural market openings under WTO commitments for 2026-2028, covering onion seeds, dried and powdered onions, potato varieties, and fresh potatoes for processing. The approval follows the Agricultural and Cooperative Policy and Development Committee meeting on September 8, 2025. Key details include: 1) Onion seeds import quota of 3.15 tons annually with 0% in-quota tax and 218% out-of-quota tax, 2) Dried and powdered onions with 1,256.50 tons annual quota and 27% in-quota tax, 3) Potato varieties with unlimited quota and 0% in-quota tax, and 4) Fresh potatoes for processing with 83,000 tons annual quota and 27% in-quota tax, with specific import period restrictions.
