Maha Sarakham Students and Citizens Demand Recount in Election District 1
In Maha Sarakham, students and citizens assembled near the Student Affairs Building of Rajabhat Maha Sarakham University to demand a recount of parliamentary representative election votes in District 1 of Maha Sarakham city. The gathering emerged after online reports revealed discrepancies in vote count displays, particularly involving vinyl sheets covering original vote numbers on announcement boards. Protesters questioned the vote count for Candidate No. 6, Rittirong Phumsawat, especially in Tha Song Khon Subdistrict. Originally announced at 2,930 votes, the number was later covered with a new figure of 3,078 votes - an increase of 148 votes, changing the total from 32,345 to 32,493 votes. Election Commission officials claimed the number changes were due to calculation errors, but citizens remained skeptical. The local Election Commission director, Lt. Traisorn Prasuk, stated that any recount must be approved by the central Election Commission and must follow legal procedures. Despite hours of negotiations, no resolution was reached. Protesters remained adamant about an immediate recount, while election officials insisted on waiting for central approval, creating a tense atmosphere with citizens closely monitoring the situation throughout the night.
