Another Incident! Clear Evidence of Cambodia Secretly Planting New Landmines on Thai Soil
On February 15, 2024 - Rear Admiral Parath Ratchanaichayaphan, Navy spokesperson, revealed that the Navy's Humanitarian Demining Operations Unit discovered 6 new PMN-2 personnel mines in Ban Chamarak, Trat province, during the 'Trat Eliminate Enemies' operation on February 14. The investigation confirmed these are newly placed mines by the opposing side, not old remnants. Additionally, nearby areas revealed 3 PMN-1 mines and 1 POMZ mine during tactical route development along the border. The Navy affirmed strict adherence to the Thai-Cambodian joint statement from December 27, 2023, maintaining humanitarian principles and not supporting personnel mine usage. The use of these mines, especially new PMN-2 types, is considered a severe violation of international humanitarian law and mine prohibition commitments. Thailand condemns these actions and will systematically document evidence, proceeding through legal and international mechanisms.
