Dozens Injured as Phuket–Betong Bus Overturns in Huai Yot
TRANG — On 15 February 2026, a double-decker Phuket–Betong bus overturned in Huai Yot district early Saturday, leaving dozens injured and the driver with a severed leg.
The crash occurred around 02:00 on Phetkasem Road opposite Samakkhi Sueksa School in Na Wong subdistrict. Police and rescue teams quickly responded to the accident scene.
The first-class air-conditioned bus was found lying on its right side in a roadside ditch, with heavy front-end damage. Authorities had to break the rear glass to evacuate trapped passengers.
Out of 52 people on board, 30 were injured, including more than 10 seriously. The driver, 52-year-old Sirichai Tang-sengki, suffered the most severe injuries, losing his left leg and sustaining a head wound.
Initial investigations suggest the bus may have lost control after the driver claimed a motorcycle cut in front of him, though a nearby patrol officer disputed this, suggesting the driver might have fallen asleep.
The bus company provided a replacement vehicle to transport the remaining passengers, and police plan to conduct further investigations once the driver's condition stabilizes.
