Explosive Oil Tanker Erupts Near Gas Station and School, Repeated Explosions Reported
An oil tanker exploded in Khon Kaen, requiring officials to evacuate students and residents for safety and mobilize firefighting teams to prevent the fire from spreading to the community. On February 2, 2569 (2026), reporters noted that the oil tanker exploded and caught fire rapidly near a truck parking area close to a gas station and Si Kranuan School in Nong Ko Subdistrict, Kranuan District, Khon Kaen Province. The incident created thick black smoke covering a wide area and caused significant panic among local residents and nearby travelers.
Later, Police Colonel Somyot Sriprakun and District Chief Sukhum Dolsophon urgently coordinated with local firefighting units to control the situation. Periodic explosions continued at the scene, requiring officials to quickly cordon off the surrounding area to prevent potential danger. Sukhum ordered the immediate evacuation of students and teachers from Si Kranuan School to a safe location, with close monitoring of students. Firefighters continuously used water and foam to control the flames and prevent spread to nearby gas stations and critical buildings.
Currently, no injuries or fatalities have been reported. The cause of the explosion and total damage are still under investigation by relevant authorities.
