World Record! 33-Year-Old Cockatiel from US Clinches Guinness World Record for Oldest Living Bird
An Illinois family has created a worldwide sensation as their beloved pet cockatiel named Sunny, aged 33, has been officially certified by Guinness World Records as the oldest living cockatiel. Sunny set the record at 32 years and 292 days in October 2023, before celebrating his 33rd birthday on January 10th, surrounded by the family who has cared for him since he was a tiny chick. Owner Janet Rischer from Northbrook, Illinois, revealed that Sunny has been with her family since he was just a few weeks old in 1993 and quickly showed remarkable musical talents, able to precisely mimic movie and TV show theme songs with incredible accuracy in both rhythm and pitch. Rischer believes Sunny's longevity comes from nutritious food, close care, and regular social interaction. Despite now having a reduced vocabulary, Sunny's charm remains unchanged. The heartwarming story reflects the power of love and attentive care in helping a pet live a long, high-quality life.
