Young Man Found Dead in Temple Room While Seeking Monastic Ordination
NAKHON RATCHASIMA — A 22-year-old man from Sakon Nakhon province was found dead inside a monk's room at a temple in Muang district, according to local police. Officers were alerted shortly after midnight on 10 February 2026 to the discovery at Wat Prok in Nai Mueang subdistrict. The room was locked from the inside, and when rescue workers helped officers enter, they discovered the man had hanged himself. The deceased was identified as Jessadaporn Sura, 22, from Wanon Niwat district, Sakon Nakhon. Police estimated he had been dead for approximately 24 hours. A handwritten note was found at the scene, in which he apologized to the temple and his parents, explaining he was struggling with personal problems. A monk from the temple reported that Jessadaporn had arrived about three weeks earlier seeking ordination. The temple's abbot was observing his behavior before allowing him to proceed, and he had been helping with temple duties. On the day he was found, he did not emerge from his room, which prompted temple staff to alert authorities. His body was sent to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for a post-mortem examination before being released to his relatives for funeral rites.
