Priya Raises Concerns About Election Commission's Vote Count Announcement
On February 20, 2024, Priya Tewanornmitrकul, a law professor at Thammasat University, posted on Facebook criticizing the Election Commission's official vote count announcement for 400 constituencies. He expressed concern about the incomplete reporting, noting that the PDF files on Google Drive lack the total number of voters who cast ballots.
After 10 days, the commission released raw vote count sheets, but failed to announce the total voter turnout - a critical transparency issue. Priya emphasized that this delay raises questions about the election's fairness and integrity. He pointed out that normally, voter turnout percentage is announced immediately after elections, but in this case, the figures remain undisclosed.
The professor warned that if the Election Commission does not quickly provide clear, transparent information, it could seriously undermine public trust in the electoral process. He suggested the delay might indicate attempts to manipulate voting numbers, particularly regarding the discrepancy between district and party-list ballots.
