TRANG — On February 22, 2026, a 43-year-old man suspected of stealing electrical cables from Trang Hospital suffered serious injuries after crashing his motorcycle into a shrine sign while attempting to escape security guards.
Police at Mueang Trang Police Station were alerted around 23:00 about a theft suspect who had crashed into a concrete base and metal pole at the entrance sign of the Phra Phikanet shrine in the Thai Samut housing estate.
Authorities found an orange Honda Click Play motorcycle with Trang registration plates damaged at the scene. Bolt cutters were discovered inside the vehicle.
The rider, Weerapong Singkaew from Na Ta Luang subdistrict, was found nearby with fractures to both legs and additional head and body injuries. Rescue workers provided first aid and transported him to Trang Hospital for treatment.
Hospital security guards had discovered a power outage near a utility well and found cut electrical cables. They witnessed the suspect parking his motorcycle, collecting the bundled cables wrapped in a quilt, and attempting to flee when confronted.
During a high-speed chase involving traffic violations and cable throwing, the pursuit ended when the suspect lost control and crashed into the shrine sign.
Recovered evidence included the discarded cables and a headlamp. Trang Hospital authorities are preparing to file formal theft charges against the suspect.
