Election Commission Confirms 'Dr. Suphat' Still Qualifies as MP Candidate

On January 30, 2024 – Narong Klainvarin, the Chairman of the Election Commission (EC), gave an interview regarding the qualifications of Dr. Suphat Hasuwannakij, the former director of Saba Yoi Hospital and MP candidate for Songkhla's 2nd District from the People's Party. Narong stated that the EC Director in Songkhla has requested information from the Ministry of Public Health, but has not yet received a clear response. The Songkhla EC is still unaware of the specific details of Dr. Suphat's disciplinary action and whether it constitutes a disqualifying offense. When asked if the fact that the Minister of Public Health (who signed the order dismissing Dr. Suphat) is also an MP candidate could create an electoral advantage or disadvantage, Narong said no. "We must examine the disciplinary process of the Ministry of Public Health and wait for the report on what disciplinary action Dr. Suphat has faced," he explained. At present, Dr. Suphat is still considered qualified as an MP candidate for Songkhla's 2nd District.
