Former Boxer Goes Berserk, Kicks Student in Park with Prior Fatal Assault History
On January 30, 2024, Nang Rong Police in Buriram Province received a report of two 16-year-old boys being physically assaulted at Nong Ta Mu Public Park. The suspect, identified as Phongkorn "Ikkyu" (40 years old), was found in a state of frenzy in the park's activity area.
The suspect has a prior criminal history of fatally attacking an Indian national on October 21, 2021, near Nong Ri Pond, for which he was sentenced to approximately 4 years in prison. When police and rescue workers arrived, they had difficulty restraining him due to his large physique as a former boxer, taking around 20 minutes to control him.
One of the teenage victims (18 years old) reported that he and a friend were sitting by the pond when Ikkyu approached, demanded to see their phone, and then suddenly kicked the victim in the mouth. Both teenagers managed to escape and alert the authorities.
Ikkyu is described as exhibiting behavior similar to mental illness, with a history of multiple violent assaults that have terrified local residents. After recently being released from prison, he quickly committed another violent act, though fortunately the students escaped serious injury.
