Takraw Prepares Asian Games Team Immediately After New Leadership Announcement

After Thana Chaiyaprased's resignation from the Thai Takraw Association presidency, the association held an executive committee meeting and set a date for electing a new president on February 28, 2024, to move forward with various missions, especially preparing athletes for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2024. Somphong Chatawichi, the vice president and acting president, revealed that they continue to develop the athlete team preparation plan to ensure smooth operations. Wiradech Sompita, another vice president, stated that after the election, they will immediately select new coaches and athletes within 15 days, expecting 80-90 percent of the team to be new. He emphasized that while the previous team was not bad, they have been using athletes with too much experience, some playing for over 20 years. The goal for the 2026 Asian Games is clear: the Thai takraw team, especially the men's team, must win the gold medal after missing out in the 33rd SEA Games. The new coaches and executive committee must work together to rebuild the association's success.
