Sunny Sunday - 'Sai' Doesn't Plan to Retire from Acting, Sees Film Sets as Safe Zones of Happiness
With over 30 years in the entertainment industry, talented actress Sai Intira Charoenpora recently starred in the movie "Ging Kaew", a film based on the infamous true story of a female death row prisoner in Thailand.
In discussing the film, Sai categorizes it as a ghost movie with historical context. She emphasizes that she doesn't view Ging Kaew as completely innocent, but finds the case fascinating. The case was shocking at the time, with execution orders issued directly without going through standard court processes.
Sai is particularly intrigued by Ging Kaew's medical history at Somdet Chaopraya Hospital, noting that the death penalty remains a controversial topic even today. She believes the case raises important questions about proportionality of punishment and societal understanding.
The actress approached the role by doing extensive research and discussing her ideas with the director. She found the character's psychological complexity compelling, especially considering the potential mental health aspects that weren't fully explored at the time.
Filming was emotionally challenging. Shot at a real prison in Phetchaburi province, Sai describes the environment as intense and psychologically demanding. She developed a technique of simultaneously being in the scene while maintaining a slight distance as an observer to protect her mental state.
Particularly difficult were scenes depicting the execution, which required immense emotional depth and careful preparation. Sai emphasizes the importance of staying connected to the character while avoiding complete emotional absorption.
