At 5:30 AM on February 22, 2026, Acting Police Lieutenant Sothon Sukkaew from Sank Buri Police Station received a report of a fatal accident at the Wat Chantanaram red light intersection in Huai Kot District, Chainat Province. A pickup truck ran a red light, first hitting a worker transport truck from behind, then crashing into an electrical pole and spinning into another parked pickup truck.
The accident resulted in multiple deaths and injuries. Rescue workers found bodies scattered across the road. Four people were initially confirmed dead: Watchapol, 28 (the pickup driver), Nataporn, 23, Jaruwan, 26, and Thitima, 24. A fifth victim, Supatra, 25, later died from her injuries at Sank Buri Hospital.
The culprit vehicle, an Isuzu D-Max with Bangkok license plates, was completely destroyed, split almost in half. CCTV footage revealed the truck had been driving recklessly, hitting traffic signals before the devastating collision.
Preliminary investigations suggest police will await statements from survivors and conduct blood alcohol tests to determine legal proceedings.
