Office of Basic Education Commission Orders Transfer of Female Teacher Who Punished Student with 800 Sit-Ups

On February 5, 2024, the Office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC) reported that following social media reports of a high school student in Lopburi province being forced to do 800 sit-ups as punishment, they immediately assigned a working team to investigate the incident. The Lopburi Secondary Educational Service Area Office initially confirmed the punishment occurred. OBEC has ordered the teacher to temporarily work at the district office while a comprehensive investigation is conducted. The committee will gather evidence from all relevant parties and report back quickly. OBEC stressed that they will not remain passive, demanding a conclusion within 7 days and closely monitoring the situation. All schools were reminded to follow appropriate disciplinary guidelines that prioritize student physical and mental safety.
