ONCB Launches Aggressive Operation to Remove Corrupt State Officials Involved in Transnational Drug Network
On February 16, 2026, Police Lieutenant Suriya Singhakomol, Secretary of ONCB, launched a proactive operation to root out state officials at all levels involved with drug networks. The operation aims to create transparency in government systems and restore public confidence. The key approach is uncompromising suppression, with no protection for officials found linked to drug networks, whether local or transnational. Offenders will face maximum criminal and disciplinary penalties, including asset seizures. During the operation between January 30 and February 2, 2026, ONCB successfully arrested four individuals: Police Corporal Nonthapath (27), a Laotian woman named Phu Wiang (30), Thai national Chan Yuth (38), and Thai woman Punyawee (48). Assets totaling 1.6 million baht, including three vehicles and nearly 1 million baht in bank accounts, were seized. The investigation revealed a transnational drug trafficking network with the Laotian woman coordinating drug smuggling from Laos into Thailand, utilizing transportation teams and collaborating with state officials to facilitate drug smuggling.
