Department of Water Highlights World Wetlands Day, Emphasizing Traditional Ecological Knowledge

The Department of Water organized World Wetlands Day, focusing on the role of traditional knowledge and cultural heritage in preserving wetland ecosystems. At the event, Phadet Laytong, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, emphasized that wetlands are crucial ecological foundations that provide clean water, food, and habitat for diverse species. He stressed the urgent need to conserve and restore these areas, which are vital for human well-being and traditional wisdom. Therachan Boonsith, Director-General of the Department of Water Resources, highlighted the department's mission to maintain wetland status, restore critical areas, and elevate their value, including recently registering Bang Pu as a Ramsar Site. The event underscored the importance of community, civic, and business collaboration in protecting these essential ecosystems.
