Family Mourns Loss of Air Force Lieutenant Kornwich in Chiang Mai Plane Crash, Reveals Final Words
The family of Lieutenant Kornwich Jenkid is devastated by his loss in the Chiang Mai plane crash. His uncle, Vichit Kunapin, 69, shared emotional details about the young pilot's final moments and life.
Lieutenant Kornwich, 29, was the younger son of former elementary school teachers, and came from a family of air force pilots. His older brother is also an air force pilot. On the morning of January 29th, Kornwich called his father normally before his mission, saying he was "about to take off" - these were his last words.
At 10:00 AM, news of the plane crash spread, and by 11:00 AM, military officials confirmed his death. His uncle described Kornwich as a bright, cheerful student who followed in his brother's footsteps. He was a graduate of Boon Waht School and had received a scholarship to study in Japan, becoming an air force pilot like his brother.
Despite the profound grief, his uncle expressed pride in his nephew's service to the country. The family plans to conduct traditional memorial ceremonies and will inter his ashes at Sri Luang Temple in Chae Hom district.
The funeral for Lieutenant Kornwich and his fellow pilot, Air Force Captain Samatchaa Kunamat, will be held at the Air Force Crematorium at Wat Phra Sri Mahathat in Bangkok, with various ceremonial rituals planned.
