Disease Control Department Finds 2 More Monkeypox Cases in Prison, Confirms Situation is Contained
The Disease Control Department has discovered two new monkeypox cases in a prison facility, confirming that the situation remains contained and fully traceable. Following a previous case involving an inmate who died at the Corrections Hospital, the Department of Disease Control and Ministry of Public Health collaborated with the Corrections Department to investigate the outbreak closely. On February 18th, Dr. Montien Khanasawat, Director-General of the Disease Control Department, revealed that their investigation identified 49 high-risk contacts, including inmates and prison healthcare volunteers. During surveillance, two prison healthcare volunteers tested positive for Mpox. Both individuals have mild symptoms, are in good health, and have developed minor pustules. They have been confirmed through laboratory testing and are receiving treatment at the Corrections Hospital. All other contacts have undergone comprehensive medical examinations and are currently under 21-day observation according to disease control protocols. The Corrections Department has implemented strict control measures, including isolating symptomatic inmates, conducting twice-daily health checks for at-risk groups, and changing visitation to remote communication to reduce transmission risks.
