Election Commission Moves! Requests Bank of Thailand Details on Suspicious Cash Transfers During Election Period
The Election Commission has submitted a letter to the Bank of Thailand requesting details about unusual money transfers during the election period. On January 30, 2024, the Bank of Thailand discovered abnormal cash withdrawals over the past 10 days, totaling over 250 million baht, with a focus on exchanges of 100 and 500 baht banknotes. The transactions were deemed suspicious and have already been referred to the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) for investigation.
Most recently, the Election Commission assigned Mr. Khanchit Charoen-in, Deputy Secretary-General, to submit a letter to the Bank of Thailand requesting details about the unusual money transfers or withdrawals during the parliamentary election period. Mr. Khanchit submitted the letter today, which was received by a Bank of Thailand representative, with the bank promising to provide details to the Election Commission as soon as possible.
Additionally, reports suggest that Bank of Thailand representatives will deliver the information to Mr. Sawaeng Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission, at the EC office this evening.
