Navy Announces Container Placement at Border, Committed to Ceasefire to Reduce Tensions

On February 7, 2024, Rear Admiral Parit Rattanachaiaphan, Navy Spokesperson, revealed that the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defense Command (CBB) has strategically placed containers in the border area near Ban Tha Sen, Chamrak Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trat Province. This security measure follows a joint statement between two countries on December 27, 2023, and responds to incidents on January 15, 2024, where individuals illegally cut border barbed wire, causing confrontations. The container placement is a temporary measure to prevent recurring incidents, reduce face-to-face confrontations, and minimize area tensions. The Navy emphasized careful implementation, respecting human rights and local residents' lives by placing containers only at necessary points where previous disruptions occurred.
