Bomber Tricks EOD Officers, Planted Third Bomb at Gas Station, Causing Finger Amputation
Criminals tricked EOD officers and planted a third bomb at a gas station, causing an EOD officer to lose a finger. The incident occurred at a PTT gas station near the Pattani clock tower, where explosives were hidden in toilet water tanks at two different locations. When the EOD officer, Sergeant Phichitphan Wetchachive, attempted to defuse the bomb on February 4, 2024, the explosive detonated unexpectedly. The blast caused ceramic fragments to scatter, severing the officer's finger. The bomb was strategically placed with two trigger systems to deliberately injure officials, using a complex detonation method that included potential remote control or trigger mechanisms. Investigators are still collecting evidence and examining the precise detonation technique.
