Phayao Shooting: Man Arrested After Torching Shop and Shooting Father-in-Law
PHAYAO — On February 12, 2026, a shooting suspect was arrested after allegedly setting fire to a grocery shop and firing more than eight rounds at his father-in-law in Pong district, leaving the victim critically injured. CCTV footage captured the suspect setting fire to the front of the grocery store before firing multiple shots at his father-in-law. The injured man, Mr. Manop Unruen, was seriously wounded when one bullet pierced his abdomen. The suspect, Mr. Banhan Lansaengkaew, fled the scene in a white Chevrolet pickup truck without license plates. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident arose from a family dispute, with the suspect allegedly following his wife after an argument and then attacking her father. Police launched a manhunt and found the suspect's vehicle after it ran out of fuel. Officers persuaded him to surrender and discovered a 9 mm handgun hidden in the vehicle's door panel. The suspect was initially charged with attempted premeditated murder, attempted arson, and unlawful possession of a firearm. The investigation is ongoing.
