Enraged Son-in-Law Burns Shop, Shoots Father-in-Law, Arrested After Dramatic Escape

On February 12, 2024, a serious incident occurred in Pong District, Phayao Province. CCTV captured a man setting fire to a local convenience store before using a 9mm weapon to shoot his father-in-law, Manop, multiple times. The suspect, Banharn, fled in a white pickup truck after the shooting. Initial investigations revealed the incident stemmed from family problems. The suspect had arguments with his wife, who subsequently fled to her father's home. Unable to find her, he first set fire to the shop's exterior in the early evening, then returned to shoot his father-in-law over 8 times, with bullets penetrating the victim's abdomen. Police pursued the suspect, eventually finding him stranded on a village road after running out of fuel. They surrounded and negotiated his surrender. A 9mm weapon was discovered hidden in the vehicle's right door panel. Eight bullet casings and fire damage were found at the scene. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, arson, and illegal weapon possession.
