Theng, Woraphop, and Supachot Submit Bail in Defamation Case after Being Sued for 100 Million Baht
On February 2, 2026, at the Ratchada Criminal Court, Nattaphong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People's Party and prime ministerial candidate, along with Woraphop Wiriyaroj and Supachot Chaisaj, list MP candidates, came to submit bail for a defamation case related to their press conference about high electricity prices in 2024 and their parliamentary no-confidence debate on energy policy.
Nattaphong stated they were processing advance bail documents for a defamation lawsuit from a company seeking 100 million baht, stemming from their media press conference about electricity price issues. Woraphop and Supachot were sued following their parliamentary discussion.
The bail submission follows standard legal procedures, with Nattaphong emphasizing they would not flee during the election campaign. He expressed confidence that society would provide fair treatment and confirmed the bail would use personal assets.
When asked if the lawsuit would diminish their morale, Nattaphong stated they would separate election campaigning from legal proceedings. He insisted the lawsuit would not shake their resolve and that if the People's Party becomes the government, they would continue pushing for fair electricity prices.
Reporters noted that fan clubs gathered outside the court, presenting orange garlands and warmly supporting Nattaphong, chanting 'Prime Minister Theng'.
The court has scheduled testimony hearings: Nattaphong on February 16, 2026 at 9:00 AM, Supachot at 1:00 PM the same day, and Woraphop on May 11, 2026 at 9:00 AM.
